Galia Kirilova: Good morning all
I am trying to organise the schedule for this week: Shall we all agree on it in order to call British museum and book another appointment. Baiba what happened with Tate, you was in charge with this.
Have a lovely day!
PS. this is the replay to my email from Tate
Dear Galia Kirilova
Thank you for your interest in Tate Archive. I would be happy to meet you to give you an overview of the Archive. I am free on Thursday morning next week, between 10.00 and 11.00, if that is convenient for you.
Could you let me know what aspects of the Archive you are interested in, so that I can focus on issues relevant to you?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes

I haven't replay yet as Baiba took the initiative to contact them too.
What do you think guys?
Baiba Jake: Hi everyone!
Sorry for not being here for some time. Was completely off because of saturday, that definitely was not my day. Anyway..
Wow, Stef, great job, looks amazing. Galia, you should reply to them! They haven't still responded to mine and I was going to call them, however, I will just leave this. The response they gave you sounds just like the one, that would be almost perfect to the e-mail that I sent them I was thinking that maybe we can go to Tate Archive on Thursday morning at 10 or 11am and then for 12pm book the White Cube archive?! What do you think guys? Or I could book it for saturtday or sunday, if you like?!
I was just thinking it would be nice to go to Tate and then we could work on ideas and materials in the White Cube. Last time we had so much to discuss afterwards, that I would really like to do it this time as well, whilst the thoughts and impressions are fresh.
Just read the e-mail from Tate again and was fascinated to find the last sentence on laws of distribution. This was rather interesting.. nothing to do with archives.. but some points still useful.. http://summit.kein.org/node/191
GK: Ok Baiba, I will replay to Tate, but we have to decide when to visit them. I am working on the radio platform I have a list with radio that I am planning to contact and see if we can arrange something on air.
Weekend are difficult to me as I am working. Ideally would be Wednesday and Thursday...
BJ: Personally I think that Thursday would be the best, as we could do both Tate and White Cube. However, if we can't do WC, the we should just use the offer from Tate and go before the class. When did they reply to you?
GK: 3 days ago - was weekend anyway so I have to get back to them today or tomorrow.
Stef Bailey: Ok. 1. I agree with Baiba - let's give rachel a chance.
2. Tate Thursday 10-11 would be great - and Baiba and Galia we use both your correspondence for our research - a schizophrenic correspondence!! We can blank out names and addresses and store them in the weebly..this would be fantastic..
3. British Museum - would be good to go and visit actually..how does everyone else feel about that?
4. White Cube - I think we need a whole day there - Friday maybe 11-6?
BJ: I think Kiki is working on Fridays? I think that Anna and I could manage to go to BM and still get on time back to Duttmann, but that is only if we really go in there at 10.30. If the meeting is long, we can just leave earlier. At least we will have been present. Anna, what do you think?
In all honesty, I don't think we should cancel. You can already see how hard it is for all of us to get together, so we should use the opportunity and go. Also time is very pressing!
Kiki Claxton: Tate Thursday is a fab one then we can go onto Latham in the afternoon for the Lab. I'm in for the British Museum on Wednesday. Friday I can't do as I work every Friday. How about next Monday 11-5 for the White Cube?
SB: I am for BM Weds morning if everyone else is...as for White Cube..Monday would be good but I can only make it from 1:30-6pm..which should be fine. Really think we need a whole day. As we will have visited BM, Tate, Time House etc..maybe we can use the White Cube space as a point where we collate all our research etc..and take the next step - Id really like us to plan a situationist style intervention in the King's Law Library,...and if you like can get us access to the Whitechapel archive?
As for the Para-Glossary, it's done. Check it out here: http://institutionalarchive.weebly.com/the-para-glossary.html After entering all the Lab entries, I then collated the 'non-defined word' and added them to the Tumblr -http://themalabglossary.tumblr.com/ it's interesting as now Para-Glossary is interacting with the Lab Glossary - tell me what you think...and also am pulling definitions from elsewhere now - I think we can open the Para-Glossary? OR in true parasitic style we take over the Lab Glossary? I know this all sounds very Machiavellian, I blame Anna. but it does create an interesting dynamic in the "conflict" of definitions..?
btw para-glossary would be a nice starting point to investigate the digital commons - I have started asking around for artists who work with websties/applets..thinking alot about: Jonathan Harris: http://www.wefeelfine.org/ Have even downloaded an applet maker to see how to enter into the realm of online definition
Lisa Mazza: sorry for entering the discussion only now but I was absorbed by work work all day. The meetings I have not heard back from ... yet re coming later to the John Latham Archive on Thursday. Shall we do the following than:- Thursday 10.00-11.00 Tate Archive and after discussion, 15.00-18.00 John Latham Archive (time tbc by Ursula )- postpone Whitecube to next week Monday 1.30-18 h
shall we also meet on Wednesday at the usual time/place? hope this conversation is not getting too confusing...
SB: I think we are going to British Museum Wednesday from 10-11 or something? not sure? But I think we all need to meet face to face.
BJ: I just checked and apparently WC is closed on Mondays..
Anna Ilchenko: Terribly sorry for late reply. Have been working all day. BM on Wednesday 10.30am sounds good to me as well as thursday 10.00-11.00 at Tate Archive, discussion and 15.00-18.00 John Latham Archive.
Can't be at WC on Friday because of work. If WC is not available on Mondays, I will agree with any other option.
Guys, you're all stars!! Hang in there!!
SB: I think WC For next week - but we have to commit to one day and use it as the sort of "culmination" of our field research - from WC to BM to TATE and back to WC. By then hopefully we would have collated information/responded etc..which might mean we can go into audio or play with podcasts on the WC day? After that King's College Law Files maybe National Archives too and a situationist drift? That would be a nice point to culminate and spend the rest of the time responding to our research and bringing it together etc? And Galia, what have you of the audio situation?
LM: Here comes the reply by:
---
Hi Lisa,
I am afraid i cannot change the time of the seminar now as it is already arranged. If there is no way to move the Whitecube visit then it is fine. I ll write in the registry that you had permission to work there instead of flat time house. It would be nice though if you add some comments on the progress of your work so that your classmates would be informed.
Best,
---
What shall we do? Go to WC after Tate and skip the John Latham Archive? Let me know your thoughts before I get back to.
GK: I am just about to confirm to Mr... that we are going to meet him on Thursday at Tate.
He mentioned in his email to give him more information about aspects of the archive we are interested in. Do we want to make a list with a possible questions in order to give him time to prepare for the meeting? Or Shell I just write a general text? I am finishing with the transcription of the first part of the Wednesday meeting... Kiki how is going the White Cube records? Do you want to split it between you and me... Guys I'm looking desperately for our audio records... Nobody get back to me ...
SB: I have the same question - the archive as a tool, how they make it "live" rather than just a storehouse of material, how they deal with the value of information.
KC: I'm happy to do WC after we have been to the others over the next week I think it's a great idea and place to collate all our ideas together. If we each write a few bits a bobs down for Wednesday then we can discuss what questions we all have. I love this concept of valuing the archive. What agency it has, and if it influences Tate terms of it's morals/ethics. I think we could do ... on Thursday as I feel the same Stef about spending a whole day at WC.
The WC transcript is going well I'm 20mins in so I have another 15mins to go. If you would like to do some that would be great, but honestly don't worry if you're already transcribing the other audio records.
This is what .... was talking about ISAD (G). It's quite funny to think this is the general international standard archival description. It is so mundane!
SB:going straight into the "white pages" hehehe
KC: Ha ha. Looks awesome!
SB: Kiki is it safe for all of us to use the weebly?
KC: I was just looking into that and I'm pretty sure I can add editors which would be amazing! I'm in the process of adding all our emails to the list
SB: good because then we can start building our reference library. I really feel like we need to have a really indepth discussion as a group on Thursday..hopefully we have time at BM/TATE/Latham..im actually working on pages for this "space" paper, trying to make it more aesthetic, but I can start putting up situationist stuff up on the King's part...do u think we should stick to the White Cube heading and Tate ? as they are "institutions. Im wary of us putting up all our material so we can actually see what we are working with oooh. but maybe there is a copyright issue with putting pdfs up?
KC: I think we should be selective with the content. O balls maybe there is copy write issues. This then links into Ethics! I also think we should change the Tate and BM as headings but It depends on what area we are want to narrow down to. Something hot for debate on Thursday.
SB: i guess this is also the politics of the archive. well..we are all creating original responses to theoretical texts etc.. maybe that can go into the "Reference" library? I also think in terms of organising research would be easier to have the white cube heading etc..and we have "white pages" as separate place for all our research responses? ok. shit. sorry am so aware im speaking alot but how is this: white cube/tate/british museum/ the "archive as space and time" which can be where the investigations into Kings, National Archives and other non art spaces can go/then White Pages - research materials and responses etc ?
or rather..white pages first - where we collate our responses/findings to the "art" archives..before we move into "space and time"? "space and time" = archive(s) ... see weebly
KC: White pages first in my opinion. But I'm not sure about splitting up the non art archives into a separate location. Also I'm not sure about having each institution across the top. It depends on what message we are wanting to get across I'm terms of what we are critiquing and researching into. The art institutions are dealing with both space and time, hmm.
LM: I agree. I feel like maybe the more we go on with our research maybe the less important the specific institutions become that we have visited but we will dive more and more into questions related to the agency an archive can have and the ethical questions related to it. I guess I am not so interested in affirming the institutions as such but to rather think of our activity as a "para-institutional practice"...
just thinking out loud
KC: I agree with Lisa, other more important question I think will arise out of our research. From an aesthetics point of view I don't think it looks quite right either. I'll have a think.
SB: cool- so in this sense white cube, tate and Bm are starting points -leading to white pages, that lead into archive(s)? for now at least - in terms of collating our information etc..as document of what we are doing now?
LM: sounds good to me!
KC: me too!
SB: sweet. As i said, i think this site will grow, but we need to put down what we have done so far...and each 'section' technically will remain live..hey check out the cover page for white cube and let me know what u think...http://institutionalarchive.weebly.com/white-cube.html. Actually, a good image of the Bermondsey exterior would be awesome
LM: White Cube.jpg
SB: sweet! is this yours?
LM: Flickr
SB: ooh. do they have copyright or something? gonna use the one on their site. shouldn't be a problem I dont think
LM: it underlies the creative commonst license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/deed.en) and the photographer's name is Chris Guy. no problem as long as we mention the photographer somewhere...
SB: shit Ive been working non stop guys I have to stop..but as I sign off..can u believe we have had 135 unique page views today?!?!?! I've started doing screen shots of the stat pages. for the archive. hehehe. Xxx oops 132. and its unique visitors. Screen Shot 2012-02-21 at 03.30.18.png
Tuesday 21st February
Stef Bailey: SOS - if everyone is going to the Foucault?? can we meet at 3 before?
Baiba - how are you doing with Virginia Woolf summary as the foundation for the Tate visit and do you have records of the correspondence? Maybe we can put some stuff up on the weebly? ie. Virginia Woolf = 'plan of the present work' in that it introduces the theoretical angle...?xxx
Kiki Claxron: I'll be there today! Meet at costa at 3pm? It would be great to have a chat about how everything we are looking at will fit into the weebly, the research, resources transcripts etc. Who wants to upload what. Did everyone get my invites?
LM: i am at the library and can come to costa at 3. see you in a bit,xx
Glia Kirilova: Here we are! We have the confirmation for Tate on Thursday...
Dear Galia Kirilova
Thank you for your e-mail. I can confirm that I shall expect you on Thursday at 10.00. I shall meet you at the Library desk, on the ground floor of Tate Britain. Could you please leave your coats and bags in the cloakroom before coming to the Library?
Your research topics sound interesting. I may not be the best person to answer your questions, as my work is focussed on the more practical aspects of archives, but I will be happy to give you an overview of Tate Archive and to discuss any questions you may have.
Best wishes

PS. Tomorrow shell we all meet at 10.10 in front of the information desk inside the building. The lady in charge will pick up us from there.
SB: Galia - do you have records of your correspondence with the institutions? Could we put them up on the Weebly? Technically we have a right to them, too, so all we do is cross out names.
GK: yes i have all the correspondences with Tate, but not British as I spoke over the phone with the Lady... I will post what I have
SB: cool!! if u like you can send them to me and I'll post them? you could actually send them via here. btw am checking my audio now, and also think would be nice to attach audio from other talks/etc that are relevant?
Kiki Claxton: that's a great idea attaching some audio files to the weebly, within the relevant page. I'm up for meeting before BM at 10.10
SB: we spoke with Lisa and she is going to open a soundcloud?
GK: Thanks Stef Tate.doc
SB: Profile 1? Profile 3? testing, testing..
KC: Yeap I'm here ooo which am I?
SB: hahaha, it's a secret YO ANNA WHERE YOU AT YO? oh-oh-oh (echo), hey Galia do u think you could forward me the emails? screen shots might be more interesting than the word text?
KC: Did you publish them? Only yours is working Profile one
SB: I will black out names and addresses with my new found photoshop skillz. oh ill do that now kiki
KC: I think that would look better too
SB: Been working on my 'aesthetic research'
KC: I see! White Cube will be ready by morning! Also just trying a lovely wordel! Screen Shot 2012-02-21 at 22.58.11.png
LM: ladies, I have finally just opened the soundcloud account. the log in is the same as for the mail (username: [email protected], password: ). Kiki and Stef you promised not to be active 2night
SB: Ok put in the profiles..so interesting everyone has numbers except Anna and myself
KC: This it from all the facebook correspondence on this page
SB: haha I know Lisa..
KC: tee hee
SB: I'm thinking I might have to step away from Dissonant images. Mehehehehehehee. we can put that in the para-archive archive. cool so soundcloud is up.
KC: yES PLEASE! O sorry that was funny typing
SB: it's so nice when we all together. ha.yes please for what?
KC: To put in the para-archive. I love how it says February in big writing. It will be interesting to see how the dynamic changes next month!
SB: Done. haha
KC: Also the profile aren't working still? it just says error
SB: As i work, I listen to Devil's Night: http://www.devilsnight.com/radio.htm pretty awesome. just sayin
LM: So what about Rachel? I guess if no one has anything to add to the discussion I would go for the proposal to through the ball back to her in asking her how she'd suggest to proceed in terms of her contribution to the GROUP (not the CONTENT)
KC: Awesome so I'm profile 500920813. Quite funny!
SB: Hey Kiki don't forget to save your wordles under The Para-Institutional Archive.
GK: Some bits from my research
Performing the archive:
Para- Institutional Archive goes On Air
Plan:
1. Contact local radio and see if they could be interested in collaboration between
THE PARA-INSTITUTIONAL ARCHIVE and them
http://artonair.org/archive
http://resonancefm.com/faq (Thanks ANNA)
http://www.jisc-content.ac.uk/collections/london-broadcasting-company-independent-radio-news-lbcirn-audio-archive
http://www.thepixelpalace.org/basicfm
http://basic.fm/radio/ (http://www.thepixelpalace.org/basicfm/radio-boredcast) Newcastle
2. Create a web radio
exploring different ideas of how to maintain active and alive the archive I though that would be interesting if we can set up a web radio based on our archive. Furthermore we can give opportunity of the public to participate. Will be very interesting if we can actually organize live discussion with the audience and see what kind of people will listen to us .
SB: u read my mind galia!! i was gonna ask you to collate the links you have posted in here!!
SB: Galia can u send me your emails via email? or can u take screen shots?
GK: yes Stef, I will.....
SB:i think if we take names out? this can be in the Para-Archive Archive section on correspondence? have put meeting minutes up for week 1, 2, 3..this week is four - guys when are we going to white cube? I think it should be Monday..thats week 5!@
LM: Whitecube is closed on Mondays...I guess they would not allow us to enter the archive either on that day. Thursday?
SB: oh right i forgot. Tuesday then? but I really want to go to the INC SOC that day at 4 as its HEGEL!!!
LM: Tuesday is fine with me but I think somebody had to work that day...maybe it was Baiba?
GK: Well, i can be available on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week
KC: Perfect, I think I will do that tomorrow (as in screen shots an inserting them into the weebly) as I'm going to try to get an early night. Tuesday is good with me! What about Geographies?
LM: I would not want to miss the next Geographies session Foucault and Lefebvre, but would mind skipping the LAB on thursday...
SB: I thought we have Geog on Wednesday? How about Tuesday 10-3? or Thursday then? Where th F is anna and baiba?! hehehe
KC: I'm up for skipping Lab or Tuesday.
LM: maybe they have a private life yes wed is geog, thurs ma lab; i would be up for both tue or thur...let's maybe decide in person which seems to be less confusiing than this
GK: Thursday is better for me as I am working on Tuesday...Just recapture for tomorrow morning. Could you please all confirm that you get the message about BM. 10:10 / 10:20 by the Info desk inside the building
LM: OK for tomorrow!
KC; Me too.
SB: ok! Yeh Thursday would be ideal actually. right i signing off!! xxx
KC: Dito x
GK: x
Wednesday 22nd February
Stef Bailey: Correspondence
Galia Kirilova: Stef, you left behind one name - 3 pic. Related to our Bus Conversation
Stef Bailey: hey. typical i didnt sleep. thanks galia for that!! I just fiddled with the Weebly - I thought MA laboratory actually fits in the Archive of the Para Archive section - do you mind that I moved it there?
Also, I found Derrida's intro to Archive fever really good for a text for the overall project - works really well to introduce our approach to institutional spaces, notions of public/private, knowledge and the polticis of information etc..- I've added it under "plan of the present work". Sorry if Im working on the weebly too much - just tell me if you don't like it whatever I tend to get over-excited. Going to bed now. see you all tomorrow! xx
Thursday 23rd Thursday
Galia Kirilova: Morning All Hi Stef, I don't mind at all! We're keeping floating the ideas and the archive Guys yesterday night I sent some emails to different radios (Stef I have the same problem as you, I can't sleep). Well, I decided to contact not only local radio but go global and try abroad as well. This morning I got the replay from Radio Zero in Portugal. They are keen on our idea and asking for more details and perhaps records. I am attaching you the replay on my email.
Dear team that's a brilliant opportunity to have a long coffee break today after Tate and discuss further how we would like to proceed.
See you later!!!
Stef Bailey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juWB8OBfefc
GK: amazing
Kiki Claxton: This is fab!
SB: you aint seen nuthin http://www.investigatingthearchive.org/,

(btw posting this up on weebles
KC: All great! So I HAVE FINISHED! Yes 10 pages! So its ready for the condensing Stef transcription of White Cube. .docx Also made a wordle for it. Screen Shot 2012-02-23 at 19.20.18.png

Best wishes

KC: Did you publish them? Only yours is working Profile one
SB: I will black out names and addresses with my new found photoshop skillz. oh ill do that now kiki
KC: I think that would look better too
SB: Been working on my 'aesthetic research'

KC: yES PLEASE! O sorry that was funny typing
SB: it's so nice when we all together. ha.yes please for what?

SB: Done.
